GotchiLab is MediaLab_'s own version of the classic Tamagotchi.

The pet is a small animated penguin that lives inside an OLED display and reacts to different user interactions. GotchiLab is an interactive electronic pet based on an ESP32 microcontroller, an OLED display, and several sensors. The system displays penguin animations and responds to different user actions. Its life cycle begins with an egg that hatches when nearby activity is detected. From then on, the penguin can perform different actions, such as eating, sleeping, and expressing emotions through interactions with various sensors. The goal of the project is to explain, in a simple and engaging way, how sensors, microcontrollers, digital and analog inputs, on-screen animations, and hardware–software interactions work.
