2020

This time experts in artificial intelligence (AI), aging and functional diversity joined undergrads and postgrads to challenge some of the most problematic issues of our future society.

Among the speakers we had experts in AI: Gonzalo Génova Fuster (University Carlos III) and Enrique Antonio de la Cal Marín (University of Oviedo), who addressed the ethics and limitations of AI. María Antonia García Prieto (i4life) and Asunción Herrera Guevara (University of Oviedo) talked about the use of technologies to improve life quality during the aging process as well as the debates surrounding it. And Soledad Arnáu Ripollés (Coordinadora Oficina de Vida Independiente de la Comunidad de Madrid) and Daniel Rodríguez Diaz (Social worker) approached functional diversity and new technologies from independent life philosophy. For the first time ever, in this edition attendees were invited to work along with the experts in teams that focused on solving some of the problems presented in the talks, with an interdisciplinary approach that combined engineering and philosophy.

First meeting

The first meeting took place in December 2018. The first meeting took place in December 2018 in a peculiar setting: Centro de cultura Antiguo Instituto de Gijón, a tribute to the citizens of Asturias that enjoyed a warm welcome by the University of Oviedo. Philosophers, engineers, and scientists came together for the first time to share the latest updates in their fields of knowledge in short talks. The different visions that engineering and philosophy have of technological advances soon emerged and it was clear from the beginning that these visions complement each other. The success of the meeting was rooted in the predisposition of more than 50 people, who agreed to continue working in activities that brought these two disciplines together after the first edition.
